ABOUT ABOUT

The North Shore of Minnesota boasts some of the darkest skies in the world. When the skies are clear, the stars shine especially bright due to the lack of light pollution, making the Milky Way an excellent subject to photograph during a new moon.

3-day workshop

Day 1 Friday, August 30, 8 - 10 pm
The workshop begins with a slideshow and discussion about night photography, camera control, and techniques at Larsmont Cottages Lake Room. Bring your camera gear for this technical session. We will then head to the shoreline to practice these techniques.

Day 2 Saturday, August 31, 7 - 12 pm
Field session at our off-site shooting location. Capture a Lake Superior sunset and prepare for night shots. The galactic core will be visible around 9:30 pm, giving ample time for camera settings and composition.

Day 3 Sunday, September 1, 9 - 11 am
Editing session at Larsmont Cottages. Share and edit images captured the night before. From 10-11 am, the class will open to others at the Cottages for a presentation on photographing the night sky, including the Northern Lights.
